Yerkes Stump Grinding helps homeowners remove unwanted stumps safely and efficiently. Below are answers to common questions about estimates, pricing, access, cleanup, and what happens after a stump is ground.

General Stump Grinding Questions

What does stump grinding do?

Stump grinding removes the visible stump by grinding it below the surface using a specialized machine. This helps eliminate tripping hazards, improves the look of the yard, and makes the area easier to maintain.

Do you remove the entire stump?

Stump grinding removes the stump below ground level, but it does not usually remove every underground root. Most customers choose stump grinding because it is faster and less disruptive than full stump removal.

How deep do you grind?

We can grind as deep as 12 inches, most request just under the soil surface

Can grass grow over the area afterward?

Yes. After the stump is ground and the area is cleaned up or leveled, grass seed or sod can usually be added. The area may need additional topsoil depending on how much material is left behind.

Estimates and Pricing

Do you offer free estimates?

Absolutly! Just send in your info, we may ask additional questions, but your quote will be free!

How much does stump grinding cost?

Do you offer discounts for multiple stumps?

Yes, we will ask some additional questions about the different stumps, their locations, and what the path between them is like, after that it's still a free quote!

What payment methods do you accept?

Cash, check, card, Venmo

Access and Property Questions

Can you grind stumps in fenced yards?

Usually, yes, as long as there is enough gate access for the equipment, about 30 inches

Do I need to be home?

No, as long as the on-site staff has access to the site

Will stump grinding damage my yard?

Stump grinding is generally less disruptive than digging out a stump. Some equipment tracks, chips, or disturbed soil may be expected depending on the yard conditions and access path.

Cleanup and Aftercare

Do you remove the wood chips?

We can! Just let us know during the quoting process

What happens to the hole after grinding?

The ground stump leaves behind mulch-like material and a low area where the stump used to be. Customers can reuse the chips, remove them, or add topsoil depending on their plans for the space.

Can I plant a new tree in the same spot?

It is usually better to plant a new tree slightly away from the old stump location because roots and decomposing material may remain underground.
